ReID Foot Traffic Analytics: Why It Outperforms Infrared Beam Counting
Starting with feature vector matching, this guide explains how ReID performs deduplication and counting across multi-camera scenarios, along with key accuracy metrics to consider during selection.
1What's installed at the entrance to ensure data credibility?
Infrared beam counters only record occlusion events and cannot distinguish entry/exit directions or detect repeated passages. Video-based ReID solutions model pedestrian appearance features and perform feature matching across multiple cameras, significantly reducing the issue of counting the same person multiple times.
2Solution: Feature Vectors + Cross-View Matching
After the camera extracts pedestrian feature vectors, the platform compares vector similarity across adjacent camera views within a time window to determine if they belong to the same person. By combining entry/exit direction analysis, it generates three key metrics: store visitors, passersby, and dwellers.
3Data Validation: 3 Key Metrics for Selection
1. Accuracy of entry and exit direction detection, 2. Cross-camera deduplication rate, 3. Stability in low-light and backlit scenarios. Suppliers must provide real-world test reports—not lab data—and conduct a 7-day controlled trial at their own stores.
Frequently Asked Questions
Most mainstream devices with foot traffic capabilities can connect to the platform via HTTP API, with analysis performed on the platform side—no hardware changes required. Note: The platform supports only select brands of dedicated foot traffic devices; standard cameras are not supported.
